Sigma 10mm f/2.8 EX DC HSM Fisheye
Review of Sigma 10mm f/2.8 EX DC HSM Fisheye lens. Review created 2008,latest update 2013.
Facts
- a modern autofocusing diagonal fisheye lens
- estimated retail price 570 EUR
- in my use from 4/2008 to 11/2009
- while manual fisheyes are fun an autofocus fisheye is even more fun
Pros
- sharp photos with nice colors even wide open (the image quality is so good that it is almost non-comparable with the Peleng fisheye)
- has fast and reliable autofocus even in low light (I bet it was an engineering challenge due to the extreme depth-of-field that 10 mm focal length provides)
- focuses extremely close
- gives almost 180 degree angle of view on a 1.6x crop body
Cons
- significantly more expensive than most manual fisheye lenses
- shows some chromatic aberration around strong contrast edges (but show me a fisheye lens that doesn't)
- is for 1.6x crop bodies only
- the two-piece thing acting as lens cap is weird
